/Happy (belated) New Year, Studio families and community! This is editor Sofia Clifford just checking in with some exciting updates. We decided to hold off on a December/January issue in order to incorporate some highlights from the holiday festivities, all of which were equally beautiful, and showcased each student’s talent and dedication! The Studio Chorus and A Capella had an amazing recital as well, in a beautiful space. We hope you had a relaxing and music-filled holiday season. Spring semester is off to a great start, so please continue reading for some highlights of what our talented students have been accomplishing both in and out of the studio!
Happy Valentine’s Day from the Studio Chorus! We may be biased, but we believe the best way to spread love is through music.
Noteworthy News
For this issue’s Studio Spotlight, we decided to highlight the siblings that are students of the Studio, and love to share their passion for music!
Think you were tired during the holidays? Lincoln Mara takes a nap during big sister’s lesson playing maybe…a lullaby?
Learning from the Best: Wonderful attendance by our pianists at the recent Piano Duo Masterworks performance by award-winning pianists Victor Cayres and Heeyeon Chi.
No Beasts, Just Beauties! These singers of the studio both landed lead roles as Belle in Anderson Anderdaughter’s production of Beauty and the Beast Junior. Ava Khouri and Julia Yacovone both cannot wait to sing and act their hearts out as well as Naveen Hatem playing a wolf and villager in April, dates and times to come!
And performing in BC High’s Jesus Christ Superstar is longtime student Andrew Cass! Performances are on 4/25, 4/27, 5/1, 5/2, and 5/4 at the Bulger Theater, 150 Morrissey Boulevard for anyone interested. Always a really great show!
Outside the Studio: Longtime student Rose Hansen (second from left), sophomore at Norwell High, talented pianist and vocalist, can truly do it all! Rose came in first place at Norwell High School’s Poetry Out Loud competition, a nation wide poetry recitation contest. She recited “Art vs. Trade” by James Weldon Johnston and “Undivided Attention” by Taylor Mali. As winner, Rose will move on to region semifinals on March 3rd. Congradulations, Rose! Updates to come on region semifinals.
Norwell Tree Lighting Celebration: Studio Chorus and A Capella had an impeccable performance in the Town Hall….probably because Santa made an appearance. Don’t you know he sees you when you’re singing?
Introducing the Spring 2019 Studio A Capella group! After last season’s Pitch Perfect madness, who knows what they will do next? Also introducing new member (not pictured) Amanda Kahn from Cohasset!
Library Fun: James Library’s senior desk volunteer Bernie Perry reads to piano student Maddy Davis before her lesson on a Saturday afternoon. How adorable are they?!
Studio Calendar: Recitals, bonding, and more!
Studio Coffee House: March 15th, April 26th, and May 10th from 4:30-6pm at the James Library- Calling all students of all ages and skill levels to come and perform any song of their choice! These can be very helpful for students preparing for their spring recitals. With a stress-free, casual environment, as well as lots of cookies and drinks, students can come for a fun-filled evening!
Spring Chorus Concert Dress Rehearsal: Monday May 13th 6pm at United Church of Christ in Norwell for Studio Chorus & Studio A Capella, with casual dress.
Spring Chorus Concert featuring The Studio Chorus & Studio A Capella: United Church of Christ, Nowell on Monday, May 20th at 6:30 pm with a 5:00 Call for all choristers. This is a mandatory performance. Formal concert attire for Studio Chorus black & white and all white for A Capella, any combination.
Royal Schools of Music Piano & Studio Chorus Exams: The James Library, Norwell- candidates participating in Royal School exams, both piano and chorus will take place in early June on a weekday morning- dates and times TBA
Summerfest Norwell: Studio Chorus & A Capella choristers. Norwell Town Common on Saturday, June 1st any time from 1-7pm. Exact time and details TBA
Spring Solo Piano/Vocal Studio Recital Dates: Friday, June 14th 6:30 pm and Saturday, June 15th at 11:00 and 2:00 held in the concert hall at The James Library. Please be sure to sign up for your recital date by contacting Dona at d.maher@comcast.net at your earliest convenience
